Common Cat Care Mistakes

Kitties have many lovable qualities. They’re cute, cuddly, full of hilarious quirks, and quite clean. Another great thing about Fluffy is the fact that she is so easy to care for. However, our feline buddies aren’t quite as independent as they like to think! Here, a Marietta, GA vet lists some common cat care mistakes.

Lack of Stimulation

As you’ve probably noticed, cats love lounging about and taking long, relaxing naps. However, even the laziest kitty can’t sleep 24/7. Fluffy will feel bored, restless, and unhappy in a bare room with no entertainment or stimulation. Give your pet lots of toys, and take time to play with her regularly. Your furball will also appreciate having some pet furniture to climb and explore. A comfy window seat with an interesting view is another great way to keep that little motor going.

Letting Fluffy Roam

While Fluffy may love fun outdoor activities like rolling around in the driveway and leaving paw prints on your car, she’s much better off staying indoors. Your furry little adventurer will be exposed to some very serious dangers if she goes outside! Cars, predators, chemicals, weather, wild animals, and other kitties are just a few of the hazards outdoor kitties face.

Lack of Veterinary Care

Although visiting us isn’t exactly Fluffy’s favorite pastime, your pet will both look and feel better with proper veterinary care. We recommend that all cats be microchipped, spayed or neutered, and kept current on exams, vaccinations, and parasite control. In between visits, watch for potential signs of sickness. Kitties often hide their symptoms, so you may not notice your cat is sick until she’s quite ill. Therefore, it’s important to call your vet as soon as you notice anything amiss.

Dirty Litterboxes

We know, cleaning litterboxes definitely isn’t the best part of having a cat. However, it is important to keep Fluffy’s purrsonal powder room nice and clean. Kitties hate dirty bathrooms!

Punishment

It’s important to remember that cats don’t think the way we do. For instance, if Fluffy scratches up your couch, she isn’t trying to destroy your things: she’s just obeying her natural instincts to care for her claws. Punishing your kitty could make her feel scared, anxious, or angry, and may even make matters worse!
